Minneapolis torn-leather psychedelicists Daughters Of The Sun steer into even grimmer badlands on their fourth full-length, Ride To Die. Severed by distance (singer/guitarist Nick Koenigs transplanted to L.A.) and other projects (Koenigs as Filthy Huns, percussionist Bennett Johnson and multi-instrumentalist Collin Gorman Weiland in Dreamweapon), the trio transmute these tolls into seven of their deepest kosmosis benders yet. The wrecked horsepower of “Desert Grave” and “Sater’s Ghost” sounds ingrained but reborn, rusted engines revving to life. Highway synth textures trailing behind motorcycle riffs and war drums, evoking landscapes of psychic venom and grease-stained sand. Moments of survivor wisdom surface too – the burned lope of “Lonely At The Top,” the rainstorm techno pulsing through “Fly By,” the harbinger dread of “Reigns Of Iron.”
